FUT hair transplant is a hair transplant method that treats the problem of hair loss. This technique has been known since the 90s and has rapidly spread throughout the world.
The design of the donor area strip that will be used as a transplant. The width of the band usually varies from 1 to 2 cm in order to eliminate the difficulty of closing the surgical wound. In addition, the possibility of creating a dysmoric wound is thus avoided. The strip is usually taken from the occipital region of the scalp and extends from the outer ear (the pinna) to the other.
Hair transplant is a surgical procedure, usually followed by the process of detaching the grafts/follicles from the back and the sides of the head. There are two methods for removing the grafts, namely Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).
However, the hair transplant procedure is used to restore the hair in a natural way through the process of surgical hair root transfer.
The FUT hair transplant or the follicular unit involves the harvesting strips from the back and the sides of the scalp, where the hair roots are to remain permanent. Since the FUT technique is performed using the strip harvesting technique, it involves a simple incision and a suture, followed by the advanced closure technique, the Trichophytic Closure.
The FUT technique gives the best permanent results due to the extraction of the roots of hair resistant to DHT.
The FUT technique involves a simple surgical procedure to make an incision to remove the strip of skin from the back and the sides of the scalp. The incision is made so as to excise a longitudinal strip containing several follicular units at one time.
In addition, the strip is sent to the dissection process where expert technicians dissect each graft under the higher magnification of German microscopes. Finally, the dissected follicular unit / living hair are implanted into the bald area of the scalp.
There are several steps to follow in this hair transplant technique :
During the initial phase of the hair transplant surgery, the hair follicles from the back of the head are removed and moved to the bald areas.
Before the beginning of the procedure, the hair in the donor area is cut.
Once the hair is cut in the donor area, local anaesthesia is administred.
The tissue in the donor area containing the resistant bald hair follicles is then surgically removed and the donor area is sutured.
The sutures in the donor area are hidden in the patient's hair which is combed over them. These sutures are removed about ten days after the hair transplant.
Surgical technicians use microscopes to visualize the donor tissue in order to dissect and prepare hair grafts of follicular units.
Once the local anesthesia is administered to the patient, the bald receiving area is prepared for the surgical process. No cutting/hair removal is required at the top of the receiving area.
Follicular unit grafts are placed in tiny incisions made irregularly in the receiving area.
The smallest grafts (one and two) are placed in front of the hair root and three and four (denser than one and two) are placed behind.
After the hair transplant, small incisions with short hair will be visible on the operated area.
The incision marks heal naturally and the redness in the receiving area disappears on its own after a week.
After the hair transplant procedure, there may be some scalp pain and it is therefore advisable to take certain medications to reduce the risk of scalp aches, pains, swelling and minor infections.
The common side effects that may be experienced after the hair transplant are described below:
All of the above mentioned side effects are very common and one can easily obtain the solutions with the mandatory recommended medication as a follow-up after the treatment!
People easily return to their work after several days. Usually, the day following the procedure and after the consent of the surgeon. This is a safe cosmetic procedure.
The result of a FUT hair transplant may be visible immediately but will be definitive after 12 months.
